Holiday Sights and Sounds strives to create (and recall) great family memories. Yes, we have lights that go blinky-flashy, but the show is much more than that. Each show is a full production designed to stimulate as many of our senses (sight, hearing, taste, touch, and smell) as possible to create memories of families and loved ones doing something, together, during all holidays (not just Christmas).
With that in mind, we have several things we wanted to convey in our name. We used 'Holiday' because we do not want our audience (or potential audience) to think we are just a Christmas show. We are for the moment until we get everything dialed in, but also have plans for a phenomenal Halloween show, Veterans Day, Independence Day, Valentines, and any other holidays you can think of.
We, also, wanted to ensure everyone that we are not just blinky-flashy lights like everybody else on the street; or the neighborhood; or even the town! Our show definitely uses lights to stimulate our vision, but we synchronize those lights to music to stimulate your aural senses; hence the "Sights and Sounds". We're not going to give away any surprises, but this year (2021) we are adding some features that are sure to stimulate your senses of touch and smell, too!
The show is currently just a hobby for us; something fun to do on the side. Thinking about future business possibilities, or expansion, "Holiday Sights and Sounds" (HSS) is a short, sweet, easy-to-remember name for marketing and promotional materials.
There is always a chance that the show may move to a different location. We did not want the name to be location dependent (i.e., 'Lights on Woodgrove', or 'Spartanburg Blinky-Flashy') but still want to assure audiences that it is still our show. There is also the possibility that we setup multiple shows. For that, we just add the location to the end of the name. Our current show is the only one we have and it is in the Upstate of South Carolina. Its full name is Holiday Sights and Sounds of Upstate South Carolina (HSSUSC). (HSSFlorida doesn't sound too bad, though, does it?)
And that is how Holiday Sights and Sounds came to be.
Absolutely not.
Of course, there are plenty of things you can get from those stores to help build some of the props that go into the show, but most of the items that make up Holiday Sights and Sounds shows are from specialty vendors located all around the world.
Every show is different. Some are very simple, some are very extravagant, and most are somewhere in between. The lighting community has made many attempts at pricing out a display and have not come to a consensus. Figuring in lights, hardware, software, and everything else needed to put a show together, the very best guesstimate we have come up with is each display costs about $1.00 per pixel. HSSUSC currently uses about 26,000 pixels.
